I don't try to change the way that students try to hit, field, or throw. However, I will make suggestions and ask them to decide which way will give them the opportunity to be successful on a consistent basis. Learning to
play the game of baseball is an ongoing process. In order to be a successful hitter, pitcher, fielder, etc., you must first understand what you have to do in order to be successful. Kids are going to struggle in this game, even the individuals that receive private instruction. Baseball is too complex to expect "quick fixes". I train for the future. We have to be realistic about the player's development. The instructor and the student have to work together in order for the students to have success. If the player still struggles after several private lessons then some questions need to be answered. Is this instructor doing a good job of explaining the fundamentals of hitting? Is the student doing a good job of listening? Should we continue
doing lessons with this particular instructor? Is my son/daughter ready to take private instruction?

The knowledge that I received while playing collegiate and professional baseball has truly helped me. I had to learn as an instructor that it is not what I know but what the student knows. I can teach and talk at length about hitting, fielding, or throwing, but what matters is does the student understand what I am saying.

- I can tell the student what he is doing wrong and how to fix it.
- I can show the student what he is doing wrong and how to fix it.
- I can let the student work on the problem by doing drills.
- Lastly, I review.
